5.0 out of 5 stars for Char-Broil Infrared Quantum 3-Burner Gas Grill

“After the first two uses, I’m very impressed!” By B. Christensen  (Santa Barbara, CA, USA)

This review is from: Char-Broil Quantum Infrared Magnum 500 3-Burner Gas Grill with Sideburn (Lawn & Patio)
I’ve always been a kind of wood for barbecue guy – I like meat cooked in * real fire, and even charcoal always seemed like cheating (although I have used a Weber kettle charcoal for 20 years). I never even considered a gas grill for me for these reasons.

To my mom and dad senior, however, the task of lighting the charcoal, etc. was too cumbersome, so this past weekend I went shopping for a gas grill for them. After back and forth between the three centers of different origin and Costco, I settled on the drive as being by far the best bang for the buck “in terms of build quality, features, performance and ease of use for less than $ 500. I seriously considered going to the Weber Genesis, but for 50% more, I just could not justify. My requirement was of good quality for under $ 500.

After about an hour an assembler define project putting everything together (not difficult, just time consuming), I fired it up and let it burn for about 20 minutes. I was immediately impressed with how hot cooking surfaces became (and quickly). Cool temp sensors at the scale registered 700 degrees!

After burn-off, I tried it out with what I found to be one of the hardest things to cook over an open fire (gas or firewood and charcoal): marinated raw chicken parts. To be done well, the chicken has to be crispy on the outside – not burned, and wet and completely cooked inside. Chicken pieces with irregular size and shape, this can be fiendishly complicated.

But with this grid, I thought I was able to hold the nozzle to the left at full throttle, and the two right burners on low settings and be creative. That allowed me to nicely sear the skin, using the left side of the grid, then finish cooking on the right side (with barbecue closed). The results were surprising.

One of my favorite things about this grill is shown that it is really easy to add wood chips for smoke flavor. Because there is a perforated metal “screen” (reflector infrared) under the food, he takes the wood chips and maintains a perfect temperature for smoking, where they will burn, but do not catch fire.

Speaking of flare-ups, this grid had no outbreaks at all. Even with fatty pieces of chicken that had been marinated in a mixture of oil, there was almost no record or smoking, just next to “hot” the hot grill.

When he returned downstairs, I also found the regularity of the heating surface to be remarkably consistent, and large steel grille surface not only made great marks on food, but not so badly as most coated steel or grid iron surfaces do.

On the negative side, I can imagine that the perforated screen will require some periodic maintenance to keep it clean. The good news is that it comes in three easy to handle sections in the form of little trays, each holding a section of the grill. You pull the “pan” up and out, lift the grid surface of the tray making both very easy to clean.

One final note – I also prepared a leg boneless lamb on the grill with a rotisserie “generic” (mark-Pro Grill). * that barely fit between the lid and the grill surface, but again, the infrared cooking system worked beautifully. I warmed up to full steam for about 5-10 minutes before putting the roast lamb marinated then beautifully let sear for about 15 minutes. Then I turned down all burners to their lowest settings, threw a stick in thumb-sized oak one of our trees, and dropped the lid.

An hour and a half later, we enjoy one of the best roast lamb I’ve ever had!

Highly recommended, especially if you can get it for the price I paid (which was about $[...] less than the price currently listed Amazon)

Pros:
heat output * Ideal for searing
* Even heat distribution for predictable results
* The Good low temperature performance
* Easy to use wood chips for flavor
* Good quality construction in the neighborhood and furnace

Cons:
* Bottom half of construction is a little weak, but better than many in this price range
* Requires pre-heat about 10 minutes for best results
* Periodic cleaning, probably necessary for better performance

“Very good grill for the money” By David Bigl (Springfield, MA, USA)

This review is from: Char-Broil Quantum Infrared Magnum 500 3-Burner Gas Grill with Sideburn (Lawn & Patio)
My girlfriend bought me this grill for about 3 months ago and I have used it about 30 times mostly for steaks, chicken and hamburgers. It has a decent sized kitchen area. I can cook steaks huge 9, at the same time. Unless you’re planning on having a lot of barbecues with more than 20 people there, so it’s big enough (and even then it is enough). It is very easy to regulate the temperature of the grid due to the thermometer for grilling surface once you find a temperature that cooks food the way you like, it is easy to duplicate the desired results with incredible consistency (when i grill steaks I heat up the grill to 650 degrees and throw the steaks for 7 minutes on each side to get a good sear, then I put out the fire completely until the temperature drops to 400 then I warm it and put it in low and close the grill … it gives me a great sear on the outside and is extremely sensitive on the inside). I have not had a single outbreak … even fattiest piece of meat soaked in olive oil. I only have two small complaints. Cleaning the grill is more difficult than with a conventional grid (but beyond scraping the scales i just clean it once a month so it’s not a big deal. That makes it less efficient, but I’m too lazy after so eat a big meal as the food comes out okay, so I’m happy). The only complaint I have is that stainless steel grates are stained and they are not very attractive after a few uses, but I do not really care about that. While they are functional, I’m happy. In general I recommend and the only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because it is difficult to clean.

“A Better Way to Cook” By L. Rosencrantz  (USA)

The advantages of this grid are also heat and flavor. Even low-fat juicy hamburgers out and not shrink. The manufacturer claims that it uses 30% less fuel and makes cooking faster than open flame barbecues, but there are a total force of 10-15 minute warm up and then another period of high heat after you finish burning waste kitchen so that the total gas use may actually be more than indicated.

She did not ignite, but the screens below the grids need to be cleaned or the heat output decreases. This grid requires more maintenance each time a unit of flames, but worth it. Our previous Brinkman barbecue completely rusted out (firebox burners, supports) after five years, but we do not take good care of him

A couple of neat features are that you can rotisserie without a special burner, you can add wood chips without a smoker box and there is no separate thermometers at the height of the grid for each burner. This makes temperature control, especially easy and precise cooking surface.

All in all very pleased with this grill. Time will tell how lasting will the screens but must protect the furnace and burner flame better than a barbecue. The burners are lifetime warranty.
