Sony VAIO EL2 VPCEL22FX/B 15.5″ Laptop (Black)

I purchased this Sony Vaio to replace the Atinquated piece of hardware the resembles a laptop that is slower than molasses,(pentIII CPU) enough said about the dinosaur, when I got my new laptop I couldn’t be happier with the speed of shipping and the ease of setting it up for the first time… my brother said he had many problems with his Vaio and wouldn’t recommend buying one, but I had already bought it when he found out I did, let’s just hope he just got the ONLY lemon in the bunch, as for now I LOVE THIS LAPTOP. I does everything I want a computer to do and then some like shuffeling music or picture albums with the swipe of your hand motion, (works with the camera), watching hd movies, playing my music while I work or surf the web, etc…. very good buy for the price I paid $390.00…hope this helps you decide, so far I would recomend buying this laptop….

Pros: Keeping in mind this is clearly not a top of the line gaming or video-editing machine…you are getting what you pay for:
-4GB of RAM and dual core CPU make for good multitasking
-Solid keyboard. Number pad included…I had to carry a separate battery-powered one before with my old 14″ HP laptop so this is a big convenience. I can type very fast on this keyboard…plenty of space, and it does feel good.
-Good touchpad. Has multi-touch with some gesture-support. This allows you to do things like pinch-to-zoom, double-finger swiping, and making circular motions to scroll up and down which are all pretty handy.
-Video & screen looks good but HD results will vary depending on source. 720p trailers on Youtube and Gamespot looked GREAT and ran smoothly. HD on Netflix however was sadly choppy every time…but videos looked good at standard def. anyway. (All over Wi-Fi, one room away from router)
-Eye-catching shell and interior…will definitely get some attention at the coffee shop.
-HDMI out could be very handy when travelling

Cons: -Sound from speakers is fairly tinny. Nothing a pair of external speakers couldn’t fix (or an audio cable leading to your stereo). With headphones sound is good of course.
-No lock/latch mechanism to prevent accidental opening.
-As mentioned, HD over Netflix was basically a no-go (standard def. still looked good though so not a deal-breaker)
-Comes with needless SONY software (bloatware) that slows down performance until removed or stopped permanently. It may have sorted itself out naturally after it was finished indexing files (music/video) from the laptop AND my network (!!!), but I wasn’t waiting any longer to find out so I made some deletions. I’ve seen much better performance since I tinkered around with it for a bit.
-You have to create your own backup discs if you wan an external backup (can use 3 DVD’s or USB, but you need *11GB*!!!)
-No dedicated volume or media control buttons

Other Thoughts: So as I mentioned, you’re really just getting what you pay for here..not too many extra frills, which for the price is to be expected. It’s *great* for everyday use…watching videos, emailing, listening to music, and surfing the web.

It doesn’t come with backup discs, but as the instructions clearly state, the software gives you the option to create your own…so definitely don’t go deleting the “VAIO Care” program since that’s the starting point of the backup process.

I wanted to upgrade from my old laptop because things started to take forever to load, and when listening to Rhapsody while surfing online, the music would stutter while scrolled in Firefox or Internet Explorer. This laptop has definitely taken care of these things…certainly not as powerful as my desktop or a high-end laptop but for everyday usage I’m happy with it

I got this on Cyber Monday, so it was obviously on sale. This is ok I guess. The main letdown to me is that it’s slower than I thought it would be. You would think that it would be fast since it’s dual core, but it’s not. At least, not as speedy as my other Laptop. Also, the Touchpad seemed like it needed to be broken in, cause I was having a lot of problems with it when I first got it, but it’s working fine the next day.

What I do love about it is all the USB ports. I personally feel like you can never have enough USB ports! There’s 4.

Overall, this isn’t a bad purchase. For the nonsale price, I’d buy something else.

This is my second Sony Vaio laptop. I also have a Sony Vaio All-in-one desktop. They are both solid computers for what I mainly use them for, internet and occasional document creation. The older laptop had poor speaker volume and about two years into usage, the keyboard started malfunctioning. As with most laptops, the battery died about 1.5 years into usage. Purchased a non-Sony battery on-line to save money. That one died in about 4 months and I could only used the laptop when plugged-in. This new laptop is only one month old and functions well. The speaker volume issue seems to have been corrected. Only time will tell about the keyboard and battery life. Would’ve given this laptop 5 stars if it were not for the over-use of plastic. Everything is made of a cheap plastic to save money and it gives the laptop a flimsy feel compared to other laptops I’ve used.

Great laptop!!!! Very nice features and nice to have 10-key number pad built in. Although I had some minor issues with the first one, Amazon’s return/replacement policy and features are the BEST!!! It was super easy to replace and before sending back first one, Amazon already sent shipping notification on the replacement. Within a couple of days, I received replacement. I couldn’t be happier! Amazon doesn’t mess around…..I absolutely LOVE Amazon!!!!

This is by the far the best purchase I’ve ever made online. I will definitely look on Amazon.com first before anywhere else for future purchases. Not only did I save about $150 from the closest competitor but it also shipped in 2 days when I only paid for standard shipping which normally takes 5-10 business days. The laptop was brand new and better than the description. I am most pleased with this purchase.

Ordered our laptop on line for Christmas. So far its been very nice. Me & my husband both use it at home and on flights since we travel a lot now that were retired. Thanks Amazon for having this on your website. I think it has saved us a lot of money.

I bought this computer for my daughter for Christmas and she loves it………Was really easy to setup and get working. Amazon shipped it quickly and the price was great! The quick “web” button is a nice feature. I would highly recommend this computer to anyone that needs a good laptop to surf the web, do email, video chat with friends.

I’m sitting here and absolutely stunned at how easy this computer is to set up and use. I love this computer; it is everything I wanted. GREAT BUY!

searched long and hard for a great laptop that would fit my needs…had this laptop since november and i wouldn’t choose any other laptop… i love my vaio… no problems with slowing down, or anything in general… its perfect!
